Wisdom Teeth Removal in Perth
Our Serene Smiles Perth dentists, Dr Mitra and Dr Parnian, have decades of combined experience performing wisdom tooth extractions. We provide many options to ensure your wisdom tooth extraction is comfortable and painless.
Why Do Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Extracted?
Wisdom teeth may need to be extracted for various reasons. They may cause crowding of the other teeth, or they may become impacted and cause pain. To preserve your other teeth and oral health, we may determine that your wisdom teeth need to be removed.
The Process
We will assess your OPG X-rays and do an examination to help us determine the best plan of action. In most cases, we can do your wisdom teeth extraction in our surgery. We’ll organise options for sedation, depending on your preferences. We have more affordable options, such as oral sedation. However, if you prefer a general anaesthesia, we can arrange for an anaesthetist to come in and provide that. If you prefer the procedure done in hospital, we can refer you on.
You may not have to have all your wisdom teeth extracted. Depending on how many teeth are involved, we typically book the appointment for between 40 and 90 minutes.
FAQs
Our goal is for it not to hurt at all. We’ll never proceed if you’re uncomfortable, and we will use as much anaesthesia as needed to ensure you have a comfortable, pain-free experience.
What is the after-care process?
We will give adequate pain relief medication and oral antibiotics for you to take at home after the surgery.
Depending on the complexity of the surgery, you will likely have bruising and swelling for one to two weeks, and opening wide may be difficult for two weeks. We recommend rest for 4-7 days, and try not to do a lot of talking for two weeks while your jaw heals.
Any invasive or surgical procedure may carry risks. Before moving forward, it is recommended that you seek a second opinion from an appropriately licensed medical professional.
