Donohoe Chiropractic is a subluxation-based practice. You’re probably wondering, what is a subluxation? Let’s start at a simple level. Your nervous system is responsible for controlling and coordinating every function in the body. There are roadblocks to the nervous system in the form of stress.
Stress can include sports injuries, hunching over a desk or getting in a car accident. These forms of stress cause a misalignment in the spine, which protects the spinal cord-a vital part of your nervous system. If left uncorrected, these misalignments will adversely affect your nervous system. Chiropractic is a way to release the innate knowledge God has given to each of us, enabling your body to restore its own health.
Though pain is the reason many people seek out care, it’s important to know that a subluxation can cause far more problems than discomfort. It affects the entire body and all systems. To correct subluxations, we use a technique called Activator Methods®.
The Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique® (AMCT) is the combination of a highly specific neurologic examination used to identify structural compromise and the use of the Activator instrument to adjust the affected joints of the spine or extremities. The Activator® adjusting instrument is a handheld instrument that is appropriate for all patients, including babies and pregnant women. It doesn’t involve any twisting pushing or popping of the joints to make the adjustment. The Activator is backed by a wealth of research that proves its validity and effectiveness. There is no stress caused to the soft tissues during the adjustment that would result in pain during or after the treatment.
After your adjustments, we’ll utilize Neuro-Cranial Integration, which has fewer than 300 practitioners worldwide. It addresses the connective tissue which ties your cranium (skull) through your spinal column to your sacrum (tailbone), releasing tension throughout and improving the function of your entire craniosacral system.
If needed, additional supportive therapies such as electric muscle stimulation, traction and ultrasound are available.
