Veneers at Chatswood Dental Associates

Give Your Smile an Upgrade in Chatswood

smiling lady with long hairWhen you look in the mirror and smile, are you happy with what you see? Or do you wish your teeth were perhaps straighter, more uniform in length, or a brighter shade of white?

With celebrities, athletes and other influencers beaming their perfect smiles on our television and movie screens, and through our phone screens, it’s hard not to covet what they have.

But we’ll let you in on a secret: you can have exactly what they have, and it can be done affordably, too!

Often, their perfect smiles are a result of having veneers, and it’s a service we proudly offer here at Chatswood Dental Associates. While veneers were a dental service that were unaffordable for many of us for a long time, they’re now a realistic option for smile restoration in Chatswood.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers allow us to take years off your appearance by reshaping your teeth, improving their alignment and transforming their colour.

They’re made of high-quality dental porcelain, about half a millimetre thick, which closely mimics the natural appearance of tooth enamel. They are thin facings that are permanently bonded to the front of your existing teeth.

Having veneers mounted on your teeth used to mean that healthy tooth structure had to be reduced to make them fit properly. But we offer special veneer designs that require minimal preparation, saving you time, preventing sensitivity and preserving your healthy tooth structure.

Finding the Right Fit

Our cosmetic dental team works closely with you to discuss goals for your smile and create a transformation that’s right for you. We assess and take account of details like the shape of your features, the size of your smile and even your skin tone to design veneers that will achieve the look you want..

Sometimes people know they need to make a change but aren’t quite sure what they want. That’s okay, too! When necessary, we can take an extra step to create temporary veneers to try out a new smile and determine if you like it. You’ll get to see and feel what it’s like to wear veneers, to help determine whether this option is right for you.

Before we provide any sort of aesthetic improvements to your smile, we’ll want to make sure that your teeth and gums are free of disease. If you do have any cavities or gum disease, we’ll need to help you resolve it before veneers can be placed. That way, you have the best foundation possible for your new smile.

Porcelain Veneers as the Gold Standard

The advantage to investing in porcelain veneers is they’re durable, stain-resistant, and translucent, which provides a lifelike and natural-looking result.

With good home care and regular visits for cleanings and check-ups, veneers can last for 15 years or more.

Porcelain Versus Composite FAQs

Are there other kinds of veneers?

Yes, in addition to porcelain, veneers can also be manufactured from composite resin or other materials. Composite veneers are made of a tooth-coloured resin material that is applied directly to the tooth and sculpted to achieve the desired shape and appearance.

How closely can you match the colour of my natural teeth?

Porcelain veneers are highly customizable and can be shade-matched to blend seamlessly with the surrounding natural teeth. Porcelain mimics the light-reflective qualities of natural enamel. Composite veneers can also be shade-matched to the natural teeth, but they may not achieve the same level of translucency and depth of colour as porcelain veneers.

What is the difference in durability?

Porcelain veneers are resistant to staining, chipping, and wear when properly cared for. If you stick to a regular hygiene regime, and dental check and cleans, they can last for many years. Composite veneers are typically less durable than porcelain veneers in the long run, and may require more frequent maintenance and replacement over time. Composite resin is more prone to staining and may wear down or chip more easily than porcelain.

Which Kind Costs More?

Porcelain veneers are more expensive than composite veneers, due to the higher cost of materials and the fabrication process. Porcelain veneers are custom-made in a dental lab based on digital scans of the your teeth, fabricating them to the exact shape and glaze necessary to fit precisely over your teeth.

Those made with composite material are usually fabricated in the dental office, by the dentist. The composite resin is applied to the tooth, sculpted and cured using a special light. However, while composite might be less expensive initially, they do not have the durability that porcelain veneers offer. It’s likely they’ll need to be replaced before a porcelain product would need to be.
