The Often-Overlooked Importance of Foot Care

Each foot is a complex system made up of tendons, ligaments, muscles and bones. With every step you take, each of these structures is impacted. If your feet don’t have the right support, it can affect all the joints of your body from your ankles to knees, hips and spine. If you’re in pain, you might be surprised to discover that your feet are the source of your discomfort.

Your feet contain an incredible 25% of all the bones in your body. Caring properly for your feet is essential to your overall health.

Ensuring the Proper Fit

Custom-made orthotics aren’t like the ones that you can buy in stores. They’re made just for you and your particular needs. The first step is to perform a gait scan and take foam impression of your feet.

When your orthotics have been created, we’ll take a look at them to make sure that they’re perfect for you. Whenever you buy new shoes, take them along with you so that you’ll know they fit you well when you’re wearing your orthotics.

How do I obtain orthotics?

If you have insurance and will be submitting you orthotic purchase for re-imbursement, you will need a prescription from a medical doctor. The prescription must state:

1) The term ‘Custom Orthotics’

2) The diagnosis (e.g. Pes Planus/Flat Feet, Plantar Fasciitis, Bunions, etc.)

Here is an example: “Mary requires custom orthotics for Plantar Fasciitis”

An orthotic appointment without a doctor’s prescription will not be covered if you will be applying for re-imbursement, as we do not want your claim to be rejected. Orthotics cannot be direct billed, therefore all patients must pay the balance at the orthotic appointment.
